HOW TO INSTALL SECURITY CAMERAS
As a world leader in DIY security, Lorex security systems and cameras are always designed to keep the installation process as straightforward as possible. Here's a quick guide to get you up and running.
How do I connect security cameras?
The connections each system uses follow general patterns to make the installation process easier. Lorex offers several types of security camera systems:
-
Digital IP
-
Analog
-
Wire-Free
-
Wi-Fi Cameras
-
Doorbells & Floodlights
IP Security Systems
NVR systems utilizing Power-over-Ethernet (POE) technology only require a single Ethernet cable to connect camera and NVR. This cable provides both power and video transmission.
Analog Security Systems
An RG59 siamese BNC cable connects analog cameras to a DVR. This cable is really two cables; one for power and one for data transfer. The power head connects to a power adapter.
Wire-Free Security Systems
Wire-Free cameras are battery-operated and do not need to be physically connected to either a power source or to their designated Hub/DVR. They record on motion and transfer data wirelessly.
Wi-Fi Security Cameras
Wi-Fi monitoring cameras are easily connected over your personal wi-fi network. Simply plug the camera in, download the App, and follow the instructions to add your camera.
Doorbells and Floodlights
Wired Wi-Fi cameras connect to the existing electrical connections for power. Once powered, connect them over your Wi-Fi network and follow the App instructions.
The Lorex Fusion Collection
Many IP Security Camera Systems now include a Fusion NVR, which can incorporate both Wired and Wi-Fi cameras, video doorbells, floodlights, and accessories.
What do I need to install security cameras?
A security system from Lorex includes everything you need to get your system up and running right out of the box. Each camera (whether sold separately or as part of a system) includes the necessary parts to connect and mount your cameras.
Common household tools, such as drills, screwdrivers, and a ladder are also typically required for installation of security cameras, or for making final adjustments and positioning.
Where should I install my security cameras?
Outdoor security cameras from Lorex are weatherproof, meaning you can install them where you need them most. Once you have determined the areas that need the most coverage, optimize installation locations with the following tips:
-
Install cameras up high
This will protect cameras from vandalism and provide a wider coverage area. -
Keep under shelter
This will reduce the impact precipitation has on the quality of security footage. -
Obstruction-free
Don't make obstructions the point of focus to maximize the field of view. -
Point away from light
Mount the camera so the lens is pointed away from sources of light. -
Protect camera cables
Install on the side of buildings, soffits or ceilings to conceal the cables. -
Obvious placement
The mere appearance of security cameras can deter potential intruders.
All Lorex security cameras come with Quick Start Guides that document how to install them, along with tips and other guidelines.
