Types of Video Doorbell Cameras

Wired

Wired video doorbells connect to your existing doorbell wiring for continuous power — ideal for entryways that already have a wired doorbell circuit.

Battery-Powered

Battery doorbells offer flexible installation with no wiring required. Mount them anywhere you need and recharge as needed. Perfect for renters, condos, and entryways without existing doorbell wiring.

Key Features of Video Doorbell Cameras

Lorex offers a wide range of wired security cameras, each designed for different needs and environments. From ultra-clear resolution to advanced deterrence features, here are the most popular options:

Smart Motion Detection

Lorex doorbells use smart detection to identify people, and select models can also detect vehicles, animals, and packages. This helps reduce false alerts and ensures you’re notified only about events that matter.

2-Way Talk & Quick Responses

Speak to visitors in real time through the built-in microphone and speaker, or use the Quick Response feature to play preset messages when you’re busy — perfect for deliveries, guests, and doorstep coordination.

High-Quality Video

Whether you choose a 1080p, 2K, or 4K model, Lorex doorbells deliver sharp, detailed video so you can clearly see who’s at your door.

Color Night Vision

Enjoy clearer, more detailed video at night. Depending on the model, Color Night Vision or enhanced IR night vision lets you see faces, visitors, and packages even in low-light conditions.

Customizable LED Ring

The built-in LED ring around the button can be customized in the app — adjust brightness, choose solid or flashing modes, or set schedules for enhanced visibility and added deterrence.

Nightlight

The nightlight feature can be activated by motion or set on a schedule to improve visibility at your door and help ensure your security is seen.

Wide or Tall Viewing Angles

Lorex doorbells feature different aspect ratios and field-of-view options depending on the model. Choose from traditional 16:9, full-height 4:3, or vertical 9:16 viewing angles to capture more of what matters — from head-to-toe visitors to packages on the ground.

Multiple Color Options

Most Lorex doorbells are available in White or Black finishes, letting you choose the style that best matches your home’s exterior and overall aesthetic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a video doorbell camera and how does it work?

A video doorbell camera replaces (or adds to) your existing doorbell, connecting to your Wi-Fi so you can see, hear, and speak to visitors through a mobile app. When someone approaches your door, the camera begins recording and sends you a real-time alert — and if they ring the bell, you can answer them directly from your phone.

What type of doorbell Cameras should I choose?

Lorex offers both wired and battery-powered video doorbells, so you can choose the style that fits your home.

  • Wired video doorbells connect to your existing doorbell wiring for continuous, uninterrupted power - ideal for doors that already have a wired doorbell circuit.
  • Battery-powered video doorbells install anywhere without wiring. They run on a rechargeable battery and are perfect for apartments, rental properties, or any door without existing doorbell wiring. Some models can also be connected to an optional power adapter for continuous power.

Both options offer motion alerts, two-way talk, night vision, and smart detection — so choosing the right doorbell depends on your home’s wiring and how you prefer to install it.

Do Lorex video doorbells require a subscription?

No. Lorex video doorbells include a microSD card slot for local, subscription-free recording. You can add a microSD card (up to 256GB, depending on the model) for extended video storage. Some models also support optional cloud storage for secure off-site backups.

Do Lorex video doorbells record all the time?

Lorex Wi-Fi video doorbells normally record on motion or event detection to save storage and ensure efficient operation. Continuous recording is possible on some models, but doing so will fill a microSD card quickly and is not recommended for long-term use.

Do Lorex video doorbell cameras work at night?

Yes. All Lorex video doorbell cameras include night vision, with many models supporting Color Night Vision for improved clarity after dark. Select models also feature motion-activated nightlights or customizable LED rings for added visibility and deterrence.

Are Lorex video doorbells compatible with Alexa or Google Assistant?

Yes. Select Lorex video doorbell cameras work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for hands-free voice control, such as viewing live video and activating deterrence features. Please see product specifications for compatibility.

How does motion detection work on Lorex video doorbells?

All Lorex video doorbells include person detection to help you identify when someone approaches your front door. Some models offer advanced smart detection for people, vehicles, animals, and packages, giving you more accurate alerts and reducing unnecessary notifications.

Detection performance varies by model, mounting height, and your home’s layout, but doorbells are designed to sense activity several feet away — typically far enough to capture people approaching from walkways, porches, or driveways.

You can also customize how detection works by adjusting motion sensitivity or creating motion zones in the app, letting you focus on the areas that matter most while minimizing unwanted alerts.

Can I view my doorbell camera from my phone when I’m away?

Yes. All Lorex video doorbells support remote viewing through a Lorex mobile app. You can watch live video, review motion events, use two-way talk, and receive instant alerts anywhere you have internet access.

Can I angle my video doorbell?

Yes. Most Lorex video doorbells include optional wedge mounts that let you angle the camera left, right, up, or down. These wedges help you fine-tune your viewing angle so you can better see visitors, walkways, or packages at your door.

How does the Smart Security Lighting deterrence LED ring work?

Many Lorex video doorbells include a Smart Security Lighting LED ring that can turn on or change color when motion is detected. In the app, you can choose solid or flashing modes, adjust brightness, or select an LED color (on supported models). For example, you can set the ring to glow green by default and switch to red when motion is detected for added visibility and deterrence.

Can I automate when the nightlight turns on?

Yes. You can create a custom schedule in the app so your doorbell’s nightlight automatically turns on at night and off in the morning — no manual switching needed.

Can I connect my Lorex video doorbell to my existing door chime?

No. Lorex video doorbells do not connect to existing mechanical or digital door chimes. For indoor audio alerts, you can use the Lorex Chimebox accessory, a simple plug-in device that lets you hear your doorbell from within in your home.

Can I use multiple Chimeboxes?

Yes. You can pair one Lorex video doorbell with multiple Chimeboxes to hear notifications throughout your home. You can also pair multiple doorbells with multiple Chimeboxes, making it easy to cover homes with separate or secondary entrances.

How to Install Doorbell Cameras?

Installing your Lorex doorbell camera is easy! For Wired Doorbell Camera options, simply replace your existing doorbell, connect the wires, and mount the camera. Battery-powered Doorbell Camera models offer even more flexibility, allowing you to choose the perfect location. Both options require a simple setup process through the Lorex app to connect to your Wi-Fi.

How does a Doorbell Camera Work?

A Doorbell Camera combines the functionality of a traditional doorbell with advanced technology. It features a built-in camera, microphone, and speaker, allowing you to see, hear, and interact with visitors. Lorex Doorbell Cameras will start recording and notify you the moment motion is detected. Once the doorbell is pushed, you have the option to answer the door from your phone.

Convenience At Your Fingertips

Enhance your lifestyle with the convenience and security of a Lorex Doorbell Camera and the Lorex app. Answer the door from anywhere, never miss a delivery or visitor again with real-time notifications, communicate with guests, and deter potential criminals with the added security of video surveillance.
