What makes a security camera vandal-resistant?

Lorex security cameras are all made to endure the elements and vandalism thanks to heavy-duty exteriors and tamper-proof designs. Some cameras, however, are designed to offer even further protection against direct hits to prevent any interruption in service. These cameras come with an IK10 rating.

What does a camera's IK Rating mean?

IK Ratings are an international numeric classification system that indicates the degree of protection for enclosed electrical equipment from external impacts. IK ratings are measured by the amount of energy it takes to break the object. This is measured in Joules.

IK Ratings Chart

IK ratings go from IK00 (no protection) up to IK10 (maximum protection). Cameras with an IK10 rating can withstand up to 20 joules of impact, which means it's the equivalent of having 5kg of mass dropped from 40cm above the camera's surface.

Perfect for "within-reach" installations

An IK10 rated vandal resistant security camera is highly valuable for "within-reach" installations. This will help protect it against violent impacts designed to dismantle it, allowing it to continue to function and record for evidence.

High Risk Locations

Businesses, warehouses, and parking lots are areas that can greatly benefit from vandal-proof cameras as people will be well aware of their presence and want to prevent any recordings.
